God With Us: Brings Hope

Title: God With Us: Brings Hope
Speaker: Pastor George Gracie
Scripture: Luke 1:5-25

Christmas should be a season of hope. This hope is not wishful thinking, but is a solid expectation because around 2000 years ago a baby was born: God with us. We have hope in this life because of God’s Word, God’s character, and God’s faithfulness.

Kingdom Come: Preparing for the Coming Kingdom

Scripture: Matthew 24:32-51

The Bible describes the last days as troubled ones. Times full of persecution, famines, diseases, conflicts, a one world government, a one world religion, and a ruler that demands worship of himself at the cost of one’s life if they do not. This leads many Christians to ask, how do I prepare for this. It is tempting to follow the lines of a doomsday prepper: building an underground shelter, storing food, medicine, and guns, and digging in until the end. However, this is not to what Jesus calls us. In Matthew 24 Jesus exhorts to prepare for the coming Kingdom by living our lives in watchful, humble, expectant and faithful service to Him.

Scripture: Daniel 9; Matthew 24:15-35

When looking at the apparent chaos in the world it is too east to lose hope. We find ourselves wondering if anyone is really in control and where God may be. The biblical reality is that God is on the throne and still sovereign. He is working through the signs and the times which will culminate in a final seven years of our current age.

Scripture: Matthew 24:15; Daniel 2:31-45; Daniel 7:1-28

Sometimes the world seems like it is stuck in its own proverbial game of thrones. One group vying for power over another. Sometimes we feel anxiety and worry as we wonder how it is all going to play out. Spoiler Alert! God has already revealed how the game of thrones will play out. Jesus wins. In the end he will return and establish the Kingdom of God in justice and righteousness; a kingdom that will never end.

In Matthew 24 the disciples inquire of Jesus when His kingdom would come. After detailing ten birth pains leading up to the end, Jesus speaks of something curious. He says, “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand).” (Matthew 24:15). Jesus says the sign of his soon coming kingdom is the abomination of desolation. As twenty first century Christians we may be wondering to what Jesus is referring. Jesus’ implication is that in order to understand what he is talking about that we need to understand the book of Daniel. In Daniel 2 and 7 God lays out the course of the kingdoms of this world, a proverbial game of thrones.

Scripture: Matthew 24:9-14

Jesus described the time leading up to His return and the end of the age as “birth pains”. Like birth pains, prior to Christ’s return He told us in Matthew 24 that there would be certain painful things that would increase in frequency and intensity. Yet, we can have joy knowing that all the pain was worth it when He comes to establish His kingdom.

The world seems to be experiencing more and more problems. As Christians, this is something that should not be surprise us. In Matthew 24 Jesus tells us that there would be birth pains prior to His return. Here we study the first five.

Scripture: Matthew 23:37-24:3

Although the Scriptures are quite clear that God’s judgment is coming in holiness and righteousness, judgment is not God’s desire. In Matthew 23-24 Jesus reminds us that God’s desire is for us to be a part of His kingdom rather than in rebellion to it.

Christ-Centered Living – Reflect Jesus

Title: Christ-Centered Living – Reflect Jesus
Speaker: Pastor George Gracie
Scripture: John 5:19; Various

Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.” He reflected the Father in all that he did. Likewise, followers of Christ are called to reflect Christ.
