Title: Christ-Centered Living – Relate to Jesus
Speaker: Pastor George Gracie
Scripture: Mark 1:16-20; Various

There is a saying: “all roads lead to Rome.” The Roman Empire was noted for its many engineering marvels, including its vast network of roads to maintain it. And all of them in one way or another led to Rome. Likewise, all roads of Scripture lead to Jesus. Not only is this true of Scripture, but it must be true of his disciples as well. It all starts with relating to Jesus.

Scripture: Matthew 23:23-36

In Mathew 23 Jesus condemns the scribes and Pharisees for their religion. Although they practiced outward forms of religion, Jesus accuses them of neglecting the more important things: justice and mercy and faithfulness. They were more concerned about outward conformance to religious tradition then with inward transformation and regeneration. It is this type of hypocrisy that Jesus condemns and lead others away from Christ.

Title: The Woes- Part 2 Leading People Away

Scripture: Matthew 23:13-22

The Scribes and Pharisees were supposed to be the religious leaders of their day. Yet, rather than leading people to God, in Matthew 23 Jesus says woe on to them for leading people away from God due to their hypocritical lifestyle. Their walk did not match their talk. Jesus likewise cautions us to examine our own lives to make sue we are not turning people away from Christ for the same.

God has called us to a relationship to Him rather than to merely religion. This is something the Pharisees did not understand. In Matthew 23 Jesus confronts religiosity and those who elevate themselves due to their religious practices.

In our world that emphasizes comfort it has become politically incorrect to teach about anything to stark or dark. Fire and brimstone preaching is frowned upon. Yet, this does not change the reality of hell for those who reject God, nor the reality of Christ’s pardon from it. If you had questions on hell the Bible has answers.

Title: Who is the Christ?
Speaker: Pastor Darryl J. Stalter
Scripture: Matthew 22:41-46

In Matthew 22 Jesus confronts the Pharisees with one of the most important theological questions: Who is the Christ?. Jesus reveals that the Pharisees understanding of the Christ was limited by their own preconceptions, which in turn prevented them from seeing Him and the kingdom of God. If not careful, the same can happen to us.

The Greatest Commandment

Title: The Greatest Commandment
Speaker: Pastor Darryl J. Stalter
Scripture: Matthew 22:34-40

The Bible includes many commands. too many if we are honest. So, we often seek a way to summarize it. If we are not careful, we often come to the Bible asking what the bare minimum is required of us and attempt to do that. In the back of our minds we think that we just did something great. However, the obedience that God calls us to is not one of performing certain minimal metrics, but one that follows him from a changed heart. In Matthew 22 Jesus summarizes God’s commands as a heart that loves God and others.
